Have you ever sat watching your favorite TV show and wished you were one of the contestants? Well that is exactly what I do every time the Great British Bake Off returns to our screens. I wish to be in the tent making my very own version of a ‘biscuit portrait’.
New season and new contestants
The first show was all about biscuits and I thought it was a great idea to start with something other than cakes. I have to admit I just love the relationship between the presenters Noel Fielding and Sandy Toksvig. Yes I know so many of the loyal BBC fans will express horror at me saying such things.
The first show stopper was a ‘biscuit portrait,’ and my absolute favorite was Terry’s for thinking outside the box. If I had been asked to make the show stopper I can only imagine the monstrosity I would have created. I was never particularly great at art. If it was anything like the drawing of myself in primary school then I would be out in the first week. I drew myself as a boxed shaped figure and forgot to put any hair on myself. It was later printed onto a tea towel for the whole year groups parents. Looking back I do wonder why my teacher never questioned my portrait.
The baking challenge
Although I love to cook my passion has always been baking. Ever since I was a little girl I always got excited about going to my Grans to bake. I would run into my Grans house, throw on my little apron, stand on a wee stool so I could reach the worktop and cover myself and the whole kitchen in flour as I made my next creation.
It has only been over the last few years that I’ve found the love for baking all over again. For some time now I have been searching for something to give me that extra push with my skills. So I’ve created a wee challenge for myself, skillfully named as….drum roll please – ‘The Great British Bake Off Challenge’.
Each week I will bake a recipe from an episode of the GBBO. But here is the most important part…I will in-fact be leaving the decision of what I bake to YOU!
Here’s what you need to do
Every week I will give the power of Paul and Prue to my lovely Instagram followers who will decide my fate for the week. I will post the poll on my Instagram stories and my lovely followers (or not so lovely depending on what you pick) will have 24 hours to make your decision.
I’ve already heard some details of some of the other challenges the bakers will face in this season. It has been confirmed that there is a vegan week and a Danish week, in honour of the GBBO presenter Sandi Toksvig.
I will of course share the final results with you all – even if it is a complete disaster.
So follow me on Instagram @weejenken and give me your vote.
Will I be worthy of star baker? You decide!
P.S. Needless to say I’m already excited for the next episode.
